IMARPE survey assesses anchoveta and other pelagic stocks during El Niño

IMARPE began hydroacoustic survey Cr. 2609-10 on 15 September along the Peruvian coast, from Puerto Pizarro (Tumbes) to Morro Sama (Tacna), out to 100 nautical miles, for about 23 days. Twenty fishing vessels from SNP and ANAP take part with IMARPE's research ship. The survey measures the biomass, distribution and size structure of anchoveta and other pelagic species, and will also record giant squid.

Peru funds maintenance of 12 artisanal landing sites ahead of El Niño

Supreme Decree 193-2026-EF, published in El Peruano on 18 September, transfers up to S/ 3,000,000 from the Ministry of Economy's contingency reserve to FONDEPES for preventive and corrective maintenance of 12 artisanal landing sites, to mitigate El Niño effects. PRODUCE lists sites in Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Áncash, Lima Provincias and Callao, including Máncora, Talara, Parachique, Chimbote and Callao.
